I league (chess) 1978

The I league (chess) 1978 was the ninth edition of the I league and the 34th Polish team championship in chess . Polish team champion was the team of KS Łączność Bydgoszcz, while KS Maraton Warszawa, who previously won the title five times in a row, had to be content with third place. FKS Avia Świdnik and KKS Lech Poznań were promoted from the II league. While Świdnik achieved relegation, Poznań rose together with MKS Start Lublin again directly.

mode

The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on six boards, with a woman standing on the sixth board. The last two were relegated to the II league and were replaced by the winners of the two seasons of the II league. The total of the additional points from the Polish youth team championship (25% of the points achieved there, rounded to half points; in case of doubt rounded to whole numbers) and the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a loss), then the number of board points and then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat).

Date and venue

The tournament was played in Ełk-Szeligi from December 2nd to December 12th .
