Eighteen teams had qualified for the preliminary round in the championships of the voivodeships , and the last four of the final round of the Polish team championship in 1957 were eligible to play. These played a simple round-robin tournament in four regional groups . The four group winners qualified for the final round, which was also carried out as a simple round-robin tournament, and the top eight of the Polish team championship in 1957 were pre-qualified. The number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point) decided on the placement for defeat). The team was seven boards, with a woman on the seventh board.
