Ekstraliga (chess) 2002
The Ekstraliga (chess) 2002 was the first edition of the Ekstraliga and the 58th Polish team championship in chess . The team of KS Polonia Plus GSM Warszawa became the Polish team champion for the fourth time in a row. With the withdrawals of KSz Devo-Maraton Łomża and KSz Porto Balbo Bielsko-Biała, four teams rose from the II league in the previous year: SS Polfa Grodzisk Mazowiecki, ASSz Miedź Legnica, ZKS Zelmer Rzeszów and MOK Budoprojekt Głogów. Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Legnica and Rzeszów achieved relegation, while Głogów and KSz Juvena Hańcza Suwałki were relegated directly.
For the team squad see Ekstraliga (chess) 2002 team squad .
mode
The ten teams played a simple round-robin tournament on six boards, with a woman standing on the sixth board. The last two placed were relegated to the I league and were replaced by the first two placed in the I league. The number of points on the board (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point) decided the placement for defeat).
Date and venue
The tournament was held in Lubniewice from August 31 to September 8 .
