I league (chess) 1998
The I league (chess) 1998 was the 27th edition of the I league and the 54th Polish team championship in chess . The defending champion ZKS Stilon Gorzów Wielkopolski became the Polish team champion with half a point ahead of KS Polonia PKO BP Warszawa. LKSz Drakon-BDK Daewoo Lublin, KSz Rzemiosło-Henkel Racibórz, KS Entropia NZS PW Warszawa and ZKS Zelmer Rzeszów were promoted from the II league in the previous year. Lublin, Racibórz and Entropia Warszawa achieved relegation, while Rzeszów directly relegated.
Since with BBTS Bielsko-Biała, Gedania Gdańsk, PTSz Płock, Czarny Koń Bukowno and the newcomer Sowa Sopot, five eligible teams waived their participation and only two places could be filled by successors, the competition was held with nine teams. In order to reach the target strength of 12 teams again, only the bottom of the table was relegated.

mode
The nine teams played a simple round-robin tournament on six boards, with a woman on the sixth board. The last one relegated to the II league and was replaced by the first and second place winners of the two seasons of the II league. The number of points on the board (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point) decided the placement for defeat).

The tournament was played in Lubniewice from November 4th to 12th .
