I league (chess) 1977
The I league (chess) 1977 was the eighth edition of the I league and the 33rd Polish team championship in chess . The team from KS Maraton Warszawa became Polish team champions for the fifth time in a row. HKS Hutnik Warszawa and in 1893 KKSz-Hutnik Kraków were promoted from the II division. Both promoted players managed to stay up, but KS Start Katowice and SKS Start Łódź had to relegate.

mode
The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on six boards, with a woman standing on the sixth board. The last two were relegated to the II league and were replaced by the winners of the two seasons of the II league. The following decided on the placement:
- in the first place the sum of the additional points from the Polish youth team championship (25% of the points achieved there, rounded to half points; in case of doubt rounded to whole numbers) and from the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a Draw, no point for defeat)
- second is the number of board points
- in third place the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a loss)

The tournament was played in Katowice from October 18-28 .
