The Polish team championship in chess in 1950/51 was the seventh edition of this competition. The Polish team champion was the team of ZS Kolejarz Kraków, which relegated the defending champion AZS Gliwice to second place. For the first time the competition was held on eight boards (apart from the preliminary rounds, which were played on six boards as before), with a youngster on the seventh board and a woman on the eighth board. The original plan provided for the league championship in the future with promotion and relegation, so that ten starting places for the I league and eight starting places for the II league were played out, but these plans were later discarded.
In the preliminary round, 20 teams played a simple round-robin tournament in two groups of ten . The top four of both groups qualified for the I league, and the first two of the 1949 team championship were eligible to play in the I league. In the II league, the teams that landed in the preliminary rounds on places 5 to 10, as well as 12 teams that had qualified through regional competitions played.
In the I league a simple round-robin tournament was played, the first eight should achieve relegation, the last two were relegated to the II league. The II league initially played in four regional groups (North, South, Central, Silesia), the winners of which qualified for the final group. The first two in the final group should move up to the I league, the two remaining participants in the final group and the four second in the regional groups should be able to stay in the II league.
The number of points on the board (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point) decided the placement for defeat).
Dates and venue
The preliminary rounds were played in May 1950 in Katowice and Zakopane , the I league from October 1950 to February 1951 decentrally at the participating clubs. The finals of the II league took place in Łódź from June 30th to July 1st .
