The Polish team championship in chess in 1956 was the twelfth edition of this competition. The Polish team champion was the DWP Warszawa team, while the defending champion AZS Gliwice had to be content with seventh place. While the preliminary rounds were played again with teams of ten, teams of seven appeared in the final round. It was mandatory to place a woman on the seventh board.
For the preliminary round, 24 teams had qualified in the championships of the voivodeships (three of which, however, did not start). These played a simple round-robin tournament in four groups . The four group winners qualified for the final round, which was also held as a simple round-robin tournament, and the top eight of the Polish team championship in 1955 were also eligible. The number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point) decided on the placement for defeat).
Dates and venue
The final round was played between October 7, 1956 and January 13, 1957 decentrally among the teams involved.
