I league (chess) 1980
The I league (chess) 1980 was the eleventh edition of the I league and the 36th Polish team championship in chess . The team of WKSz Legion Warszawa was the Polish team champion, while the defending champion KS Maraton Warszawa had to be content with third place. KS Skra-Komobex Częstochowa and KS Górnik 09 Mysłowice were promoted from the II league. Both climbers achieved relegation, but had to relegate KKS Karpaty Krosno and in 1893 KKSz-Hutnik Kraków.

mode
The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on six boards, with a woman standing on the sixth board. The last two were relegated to the II league and were replaced by the winners of the two seasons of the II league. The total of the additional points from the Polish youth team championship (25% of the points achieved there, rounded to half points; in case of doubt rounded to whole numbers) and the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a loss), then the number of board points and then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat).

The tournament was played from December 4th to 14th in Jaszowiec .
