history

The canton was created on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, seven municipalities belonged to the canton of Pont-l'Abbé. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes fell to 6 in 2015. With the exception of the main town, all communes moved to other cantons. All 5 municipalities of the previous canton of Guilvinec were added to the remaining municipality of Pont-l'Abbé in the old canton of Pont-l'Abbé .
