The canton was created with the reorganization of the cantons in France in 2015 from parts of the previous cantons Brest-Cavale-Blanche-Bohars-Guilers and Brest-L'Hermitage-Gouesnou .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the duo Véronique Bourbigot / Pierre Ogor (both Union de la droite) won against Pascale Mahe / Koffi Yao (both PS ) with a share of the vote of 51.29% (turnout: 48.72%).
