history
The canton was created in 2015 with the reorganization of the cantons in France. The communes used to belong to the cantons of Plogastel-Saint-Germain (10 communes) and Pont-l'Abbé (6 communes).

In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Jean-François Le Bleis (UDI) / Jocelyne Plouhinec (Union de la droite) won against Jean-Louis Caradec / Liliane Tanguy (both PS ) with a share of the vote of 51.20% (voter turnout : 52.32%).
