history

The area was already densely populated in Roman times , the Roman villa of Königshof-Ödes Kloster was located on the military training area, near the "Öden Kloster" , a few kilometers east of today's location with the Roman Imperial Villa Bruckneudorf, one of the most important villa sites in Eastern Austria.

Bruckneudorf emerged in the middle of the 19th century as a suburb of Bruck an der Leitha on what was then Hungarian territory. The city also provided the funds for the foundation. The train station was built in 1846 and a military camp in 1867 on what is now the local area. The original Hungarian name Bruck Ujfalu was in 1900 Királyhida changed. In contrast to other communities in the former German West Hungary, which were located right on the border, Bruckneudorf had a relatively high proportion of the Hungarian population, but this mainly consisted of customs and railway officials as well as soldiers.

After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The municipality has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).

coat of arms

AUT Bruckneudorf COA.svg Bruckneudorf was awarded the coat of arms on October 22, 1994

Blazon : “ In a red shield there is a golden, jointed bridge with five battlements, overlaid by a golden crown of leaves.
Meaning: The bridge symbolizes on the one hand the word part“ Bruck ”(= bridge) and on the other hand it indicates the connecting role of the community on the ancient border river Leitha. The crown of leaves results from various considerations that lie in the history of the local area. It refers to the names Chunigesprunne (Königsbrunn), Königshof, Kaisersteinbruch, Königshufen and Königdenkmal. Last but not least, the place was called "Kiralyhida" (= King's Bridge) between 1898 and 1921. The choice of colors (red / gold) documents the affiliation to Burgenland.
