The District Deanery Oberbergischer Kreis is one of 15 deaneries in the Archdiocese of Cologne . It was created on June 1, 2008 from the district deans of Gummersbach / Waldbröl and Wipperfürth .

In the course of the reorganization of the deaneries on January 1, 2017, the deaneries Gummersbach / Waldbröl and Wipperfürth, which had previously been assigned to the district deanery, were dissolved. The tasks of the deaneries were transferred to the district deanery.

The assigned pastoral care areas are in the area of ​​the Oberbergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia and in the adjacent parts of the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate (local community Friesenhagen and a smaller part of the local community Forst (near Wissen, Sieg) , namely the districts Kaltau, Lechenbach, Neuhöfchen, and soaps).

The district dean's office comprises eight pastoral care areas: "Oberberg Mitte", "An Bröl und Wiehl", "Morsbach / Friesenhagen / Wildbergerhütte", "Engelskirchen", "St. Maria Heimsuchung" (Marienheide), "Lindlar", "St. Nikolaus" ( Wipperfürth) and "Radevormwald-Hückeswagen".
