The women's discus throw at the 1983 World Athletics Championships took place in Helsinki , Finland on August 9-10, 1983 .

21 athletes from 14 countries took part in the competition. The gold medal was won by Martina Opitz from the GDR , later Martina Hellmann, with 68.94 m, silver went to the Soviet thrower Galina Murašova with 67.44 m. The bronze medal secured the two-time Olympic silver medalist ( 1976 / 1980 ) Mariya Petkova from Bulgaria meters with 66.44.

qualification

The qualification distance was at least 61.00 m in order to move directly into the final. Eight athletes made this mark or threw on, they are highlighted in light blue. The other throwers who were allowed to take part in the final - the number of athletes should be at least twelve - are those with the highest thrown distance below the qualification distance, they are highlighted in light green. At least 57.82 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
