In June 2003 she was replaced by her sister ship Dana Sirena , then brought under the Cypriot flag and equipped with facilities for 600 instead of 308 passengers . After the conversion was completed, it was transferred to Rasa Multipurpose Shipping in Klaipėda , renamed Lisco Gloria and put into service for DFDS Lisco on the Klaipėda - Kiel route. From June 1, 2003, the ship carried the Lithuanian flag.

Sister ship is the Baie de Seine .

Fire in October 2010

On the night of October 8th to 9th, 2010, the ship with 235 people (including 203 passengers and 32 crew members) caught fire on its way from Kiel to Klaipėda around 6 nautical miles north of Fehmarn . The emergency call ran shortly after midnight at the DGzRS Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Bremen , and shortly afterwards the emergency command in Cuxhaven took over the coordination of the rescue measures. After the damaged vessel had drifted in a north-westerly direction after the outbreak of fire , he was able to south of Langeland at the position Lat: 54 ° 42'N; Lon: 010 ° 39'E to be anchored by a boarding team brought on board by helicopter (last AIS position: 54 ° 41.806'N; 010 ° 38.804'E).

The Lisco Gloria after the fire

Most of the passengers and crew first went into the lifeboats or on life rafts, some jumped into the water. All were picked up by the Federal Police patrol boat Neustrelitz ( Sassnitz class ) and then transferred to the Germany ferry . Three of them were flown ashore in helicopters. 28 people were injured in the fire, 23 of whom were hospitalized.

The deployment was coordinated on site from Neustrelitz . In use, among other things, for were Coast Guard belonging Scharhörn who coordinated the firefighting, which also belongs to the Coast Guard Arkona that used on behalf of the federal rescue tug Baltic , Bülk and fair play 26 , the rescue cruiser Bremen , Berlin , Arkona (all 27.5 -Meter class ), foreman Jantzen ( 23.3 meter class ) and John T. Essberger of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People , the fire-fighting ship Kiel and the Danish Seatruck-class oil damage control ship Marie Miljø . The German rescue cruisers were later replaced by the tug Asterix , which with Fairplay-26 took over the further cooling of the distressed vessel .

The shipping company has signed a salvage contract with the Dutch salvage company Smit Salvage .

On October 9th at midnight, the Danish Søværnets Operative Kommando (SOK) took over the overall command . Since the fire started in German waters, the Kiel water police are investigating together with the Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation . According to initial findings, the reason for the fire on board was a technical defect in one of the trucks being transported.

The Lisco Gloria was on 21 and 22 October 2010 in the shipyard of Fayard A / S in the port of Munkebo near Odense towed. In addition to the tugs Asterix and Fairplay-26 , two other tugs were used in the Odense Fjord . The towing association was accompanied by the Danish oil spight vessels Marie Miljø and Gunnar Seidenfaden and the German unit Vilm .

After the burnt cargo had been unloaded and properly disposed of by Danish companies, the Lisco Gloria was towed to the dry dock of the Fayard shipyard for further assessment and damage analysis on November 23, 2010 after approval by the fire investigation authorities; however, in January it became clear that repairs would not be worthwhile. The ferry was declared a total loss and the insurance company sold it as a wreck to a Lithuanian shipbuilding company. The burned-out ship was towed to Klaipėda in Lithuania by the Lübeck tug Claus . There the ship was scrapped by the Western Shiprepair repair yard. Parts of the ship that can still be used, such as the two main engines, are to be reused. Plans to use the largely undamaged hull as a basis for further use were not implemented.

At the beginning of February 2012, the Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation submitted its accident report. After that, the fire was caused by a technical defect. The exact cause could no longer be clarified.

Succession

On October 14, 2010 it was announced that DFDS Lisco would charter the Baltic Amber, previously chartered to Ave Line , from owner Stena Line as a temporary replacement ship for the Lisco Gloria . From February 21, 2011, the Lisco Optima took over the route from Kiel to Klaipėda, which in turn was supported from September 26, 2011 by the Regina Seaways ferry, which is identical to the Lisco Maxima already used on the route .
