This list of ancient place names and geographical names currently contains all the lemmas from the Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography by the English lexicographer William Smith , published in 1854 . The Latin names are used as a basis for the sorting and page structure and a distinction is made between the letters I / J and U / V.
