List of the winning nations in major football tournaments
The list of the winning nations at major football tournaments shows all nations, separated by gender, whose national or national teams have won at least one of the four or, for women, three major international football tournaments: the football World Cup , the Olympic football tournament , the FIFA Confederations Cup (for men) or the respective continental championship. With the exception of the men's Olympic tournament, the selection teams are always the national senior team. Only at the Olympics this is no longer the case from 1956; instead, since then, amateur selections, now U-23 selections, have participated. The sorting in the list depends first of all on how many different ones of the four tournaments have been won. If this number is the same, the further ranking is based on the number of titles in the individual tournaments, starting with the most important tournament, the World Cup.
