special cases
The part of Antarctica , which is claimed by France as part of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, also known as Adelieland , has only a border with the Australian Antarctic Territory in addition to a coast on the Indian Ocean . The exception is the South Pole , where the territorial claims in the Antarctic of Australia , New Zealand , Chile , Argentina and the United Kingdom as well as the unclaimed parts of Antarctica in West Antarctica and under the Queen Maud Land or claimed by Norway are concerned Dronning-Maud-Land meets.

- The island state of Cyprus de facto has an indirect border with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus , which is only recognized internationally by Turkey . The two are separated from each other by the UN buffer zone .

America
Canada : The province of Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia) only borders on New Brunswick (New Brunswick) on the land side . The province of Newfoundland and Labrador only borders Quebec on the land side .
United States : Northern Michigan has only one land border with Wisconsin and artificial boundaries (e.g. bridges ) with southern Michigan and Canada , from which it is separated by the Great Lakes .
Asia
Indonesia : The province of Papua Barat borders only on the land side of the province of Papua . Both provinces are located on the western part of the island of New Guinea ( Western New Guinea ).
Europe
Germany : Bremen has only one land border with Lower Saxony . Berlin is an enclave in Brandenburg .
Austria : Vienna is an enclave in Lower Austria .
United Kingdom : Scotland and Wales have only one land border each with England , Northern Ireland only one land border with the Republic of Ireland .
Oceania
Australia : The Australian Capital Territory is an enclave in New South Wales . The Jervis Bay Territory exclave , which is part of the Australian Capital Territory, also has only one land border with New South Wales.
Countries that historically had only one land border
Korea only had one land border with China until 1860 , when the Beijing Convention created a second border with Russia (or later the Soviet Union ) and Korea divided into North and South Korea in the Korean War .
The Dominion Newfoundland had only one land border with the same until it was annexed to Canada in 1949.
The princely state of Hyderabad was an enclave in India .
Sweden-Norway had only one land border with the Russian Empire until the split in Sweden and Norway in 1905 .
Until 1912 Greece had only one land border with the Ottoman Empire .
The Ciskei , a South African homeland , only had a land border with South Africa until its dissolution in 1994 . In contrast to Venda , which was an enclave in South Africa, the Ciskei had a coast on the Indian Ocean .
