Margut is a French commune with 770 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . The place belongs to the Arrondissement Sedan and the canton Carignan . geography
Margut is located on the Marche River about 27 kilometers southeast of Sedan in the east of the Ardennes department. The community consists of the village of Margut and a few individual farms.
Neighboring communities are Fromy in the north-west, Moiry in the north and north-east, Sapogne-sur-Marche in the north-east, Signy-Montlibert in the east, Bièvres in the south, Trannes in the south, La Ferté-sur-Chiers in the west and Villy in the north-west.
history
The community belonged to the Sedan district from 1793 to 1801. From 1801 to 1926 it was part of the Sedan arrondissement. After that she was assigned to the Arrondissement of Mézières from 1926 to 1942. Since 1942 again the Arrondissement Sedan. From 1793 to 1801 the place was the canton capital of the canton Margut. Since then, the municipality has been within the canton of Carignan. From 1826 to 1871 the parish Fromy belonged to Margut.
