Max Emil Albert von Kleist (born April 22, 1845 in Berlin ; † July 8, 1923 in Rudolstadt ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general .

Life

origin

Friedrich came from the old Pomeranian noble family von Kleist . He was the youngest son of the later lieutenant general Franz von Kleist (1806-1882) and his wife Friederike Charlotte Emilie Gundelach (born November 20, 1819 in Küstrin , † April 16, 1857 in Berlin).

Military career

Kleist was transferred to the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 in Berlin on May 2, 1863 with the character of a porteef ensign from the cadet corps , where he was appointed porte ee ensign on December 11 and promoted to second lieutenant on October 11, 1864 . With this regiment he went to the German War in 1866 .

After the war, Infantry Regiment No. 76, to which Kleist was transferred on the same day, was formed in Bromberg on October 30, 1866 , and assigned to the two battalions of the Hanover Musketeers , to which the Fusiliers Hameln as garrison towns . From November 1, 1866 to July 1, 1867 he was posted to the Central Gymnasium in Berlin . After the garrisons were relocated to the Free Hanseatic Cities of Hamburg and Lübeck in 1867 , the name of the regiment changed on November 7, 1867 to the 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment . During the Franco-Prussian War he was a member of the 8th Mobile Company from December 10, 1870 to May 19, 1871 . He took part in the enclosure of Metz and Paris , the siege of Toul , the battles at Loigny , Orléans , and Beaugency-Cravant , as well as in the battles at Dreux , La Madeleine-Bouvet , Bellême , Meung , Fréteval and Morée . From June 1, 1871, he was posted to the Central Gymnasium in Berlin for another three months. During this time he was promoted to lieutenant prime minister on June 24, 1871 . As a company commander, he was assigned to the NCO school in Ettlingen on April 13, 1876 . Left in his command, Kleist was transferred to the 4th Posensche Infantry Regiment No. 59 on June 15, 1876 as the oldest prime lieutenant . He was promoted to captain on July 4, 1876. On June 15, 1899, Kleist was commissioned to lead the 29th Infantry Brigade in Aachen . On August 16, he was appointed major general, provisionally unpatented, commander of the brigade. He received the patent of his rank on September 13, 1899. On March 22, 1902, Kleist was put up for disposition with the statutory pension in approval of his resignation petition.

family

Kleist married on November 23, 1869 in Cottbus with Caroline Annuciata von Oertzen (born January 31, 1847 in Kahren , † November 1889 in Stettin), a sister of the later lieutenant general Wilhelm von Oertzen . The son Carl Arthur Albert Max Wilhelm (1875–1933) emerged from the marriage. After the death of his first wife, he married his niece Marie von Biehler on December 15, 1900 in Berlin (born October 16, 1873 in Berlin; † January 20, 1964 in the Johanniterheim Schloss Elmischwang ). She was a daughter of the Prussian general Hans Alexis von Biehler .
