Mendling is a place in the Ybbstal Alps , and locality of the municipality of Göstling in District Scheibbs , Lower Austria and part of the municipality of Landl (cadastral Palfau ) in Liezen , Styria .

The place is one of the few in Austria that is located in two federal states .

The place Mendling lies in the Mendlingtal , a side valley of the Salzatal , on the Erlauftal road B 25 between Lassing and Palfau. In the south there is the Hochkar massif (Hochkar 1804 m above sea level , Göstling Alps of the Lassing Alps ), in the north the Scheibenberg ( 1400 m above sea level , Voralpe group of the Ybbstaler Voralpen ).

The place is between 540 and 590 m above sea level. A. and extends over 2.5 kilometers along the lower Mendlingbach, which crosses the Lower Austria-Styria border here. The Göstlinger district is a scattered settlement below Lassing (from the Mendlingbauer location ), the Styrian part downstream. The place comprises almost 40 buildings, half of which are in both federal states.

Attractions

The Styrian parts of the local falling entirely within the protected area Wildalpener Salzatal and natural park Eisenwurzen , the low Austrian part in protected landscape Oetscher-Dürrenstein .

The buckle house

the Eisenmauthaus , Mendling 13, former border station Austria - Styria , a single-storey wooden block building with a clapboard hipped roof.
the Schnallenhaus , Mendling 3, an old town house, massive two-story building, also with a crooked roof

The main attraction of the place is the adventure world Auf dem Holzweg in the middle Mendlingtal , one of the last existing working wood drift systems in Central Europe, with mills, a Venetian boardsaw, blacksmith's house, fish ponds and summer drift demonstrations. The hiking trail leads from the upper end of the village to the Hammerherrenhaus in Großegg.

A number of hiking and cycling routes continue from the rear of the Mendlingtal, Hochkar and Scheibenberg cannot be reached directly due to steep slopes.

The place is a station for white water sports on the Salza .
