NGC 37 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 434 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 140,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 25 , NGC 28 , NGC 31 , among others .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on October 2, 1836 .
