NGC 24 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SA (s) c in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is around 25 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 40,000 light years .
Occasionally, NGC 24 is mentioned along with NGC 45 as a possible member of the Sculptor group . Due to the higher redshift , however, these two galaxies are more in the background of this galaxy cluster .
The object was discovered on October 27, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
