NGC 3 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 180 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light-years across. With 12.8 mag / arcmin 2 the galaxy has a comparatively high surface brightness.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4 , NGC 7837 , NGC 7838 , NGC 7840 .

The object was discovered on November 29, 1864 by the German astronomer Albert Marth .
