NGC 5 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E4 in the constellation Andromeda the northern sky . It is an estimated 236 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on October 21, 1881 by the French astronomer Édouard Stephan .
