NGC 6489 is a 15.3 mag bright, compact elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 380 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6497 .
The object was discovered on June 5, 1885 by Lewis A. Swift .
