NGC 6488 is a 14.3 mag bright compact galaxy of the Hubble type C in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is an estimated 396 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6491 , NGC 6493 , IC 4669 .
The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on September 1, 1886 .
