NGC 6491 is a 13.8 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is an estimated 249 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter . Together with NGC 6493 , it forms an (optical) galaxy pair. In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6488 and IC 4669 .
The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on June 13, 1885 . The galaxy is listed twice in the catalog as NGC 6493A without explanation
