Olga Anatoljewna Sljussarewa ( Russian О́льга Анато́льевна Слю́сарева ; born April 28, 1969 in Tscherwonyj Donets , Kharkiv Oblast ) is a former Russian cyclist . In 2004 she became Olympic champion in the points race .

Athletic career

Olga Slyusareva was an all-round cyclist who achieved numerous successes on track and road from 1995 onwards . She first drew international attention in 1995 at the World Track Championships in Bogotá when she was runner-up in the sprint world championship . In 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2005 she won the title of European Champion in the Omnium .

After Olga Sljussarewa had finished third in the points race in 1998 and 2000 , she was able to become world champion in this discipline from 2001 to 2004 in a row, in 2003 and 2005 , she also managed a double hit by also becoming world champion in scratch .

In 2004 , Olga Slyusareva became Olympic champion in points race and won a bronze medal in road racing . In 2009 she ended her cycling career.

Honors

Olga Slyusareva was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme .

Miscellaneous

After the end of her active cycling career, Olga Slyusareva was involved in a regional committee for sports and youth policy. In October 2019 she was elected mayor of the city of Tula .
