With the participation in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , the Marshall Islands were represented at the Olympic Games for the first time. Anju Jason qualified as the first of the three participating athletes (two men, one woman), making him the first participant in the Olympic Games to come from the Marshall Islands.
The Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee was established in 2001 and was recognized by the IOC in February 2007.
