Since 1976 took Papua New Guinea continually participate in the Olympics. Only in 1980 did the country not take part in the games as part of the boycott. With the participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Papua New Guinea was represented for the 8th time. Seven athletes (3 men, 4 women) competed in five sports.
