Production period: since 1980
Class : Microcar
Body versions : Station wagon
Previous model: Daihatsu Fellow Max

The Daihatsu Cuore ( ital. Cuore for heart) is a microcar model of the Japanese manufacturer Daihatsu . He is the successor to the Daihatsu Fellow Max . In the home market of Japan the model is called Mira , in other markets it is also called Charade .
The market launch as Cuore in Europe was in 1981. For European conditions it was unusual that this miniature car was available as a three-door as well as a five-door from the start. The Mira / Cuore was then considered the smallest five-door car in the world. It was initially powered by a two-cylinder engine .

reviews

The Cuore is still particularly popular with German novice drivers because it is one of the most economical automobiles on the market. The standard consumption is 4.4 liters of regular gasoline. The maximum speed is given as 160 km / h. In addition to the low purchase price, the low fuel consumption and the small cubic capacity contribute to the classification as a 5L car for the vehicle tax. From the date of approval on November 5, 2008, this amounts to € 20 per year. The type classes for insurance are HP / VK / TK: 16/19/18; Status: 03/2010. Liability insurance

Market names

In the home country of Japan, the Mira (Cuore) is also available in a turbo version. In Germany the Cuore has always been offered with only one engine. On the Japanese market there was also a Mira Classic based on the Mira L500, which was also exported to Great Britain in small numbers. Then the Mira Gino, based on the Mira L701 and based on the Austin Mini, was created for the Asian market. The successor to the Mira Gino was based on the L25x model, but was given its own type number L650 or L660. In contrast to the first generation, this model was also available in Germany as the Daihatsu Trevis . In South Africa the current Cuore model is called Charade , also in the UK .

In the early 1990s, the Daihatsu Opti was created on the Mira platform . Between 1981 and 2005, 103,221 Cuore were sold in Germany.

Model history

The first model change took place in 1985 (model L80), the body became more cubic and the Cuore got a hatchback. In 1990 the third generation (L201) was presented. In principle, it also remained true to its predecessors, but the body was significantly more aerodynamic. This model change was mainly due to the change in the Japanese kei car law, according to which a higher displacement and larger body dimensions were allowed. Further model changes took place in 1995 (L501), 1999 (L701) and 2003 (L251).

The L251, which was replaced by a new Cuore (L276) on September 15, 2007 (at the IAA), had the 989 cm³ three-cylinder engine, one of the smallest engines of all new vehicles offered in Germany in 2007. Now that the new Smart fortwo is equipped with a 999 cm³ engine as a minimal engine, the Cuore engine is only undercut by the 0.8 l unit of the Chevrolet Matiz. The Daihatsu offers better performance and consumption values.

The Cuore (L276) received the 998 cm³ engine previously used in the Sirion. The unitary petrol engine (998 cm³ and 70 hp; 4.4 l / 100 km) for the C1, 107 and Aygo microcars jointly developed by Citroën, Peugeot and Toyota is also based on this Daihatsu engine (Daihatsu is financially a 100% Toyota -Daughter). However, the Cuore has better spatial conditions than the C1, 107 and Aygo models.

The Cuore 1.0 was for decades among the top 10 in the VCD - environmental ranking . With it he even beat many diesel or gas vehicles. In 2007/2008 he took 6th place. The successor (L276) achieved 3rd place in 2008/2009 together with the Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1 and Peugeot 107. On the 2009/10 list, despite fierce diesel and hybrid competition, the Cuore was ranked 9th. In the 2010/11 list, the Cuore only came in 12th because it only achieved Euro 4 and other vehicles also emit less noise. The classification of the VCD is based on the manufacturers' "paper values". In the Eco-Drive of the magazine Auto Motor und Sport, the Cuore (L276) proves to be the petrol engine with the lowest real consumption and thus lands in first place among the minicars. The current model is not listed in the ADAC Eco Test. The predecessor (L251) reached place 14 with the old engine.

As of January 31, 2013, Daihatsu ceased sales of new vehicles in Europe. This means that the Cuore is no longer sold in Germany.

License models

Daihatsu Ceria

The Malaysian auto company Perodua manufactures the Daihatsu Cuore under license. Model names for it are:

  • Perodua Kancil
  • Perodua Kelisa
  • Perodua nippa
  • Perodua Viva

In addition to these licensed replicas, the Russian VAZ Oka , which has been built since 1987, is largely similar to the models of the earlier generations.

The third generation of the Mira, manufactured by Perodua in Malaysia, was imported to Indonesia and sold there as Daihatsu Ceria between 2001 and 2005 . A special distinguishing feature was the different front design, which was changed again in 2004.
