The Transdev SE & Co. KG (brand image as Rhenus Veniro , former company name: Rhenus Veniro SE & Co. KG ), headquartered in Moers is a subsidiary of Transdev group with focus of activity in public transport; it operates on the Boppard – Emmelshausen and Bullay – Traben-Trarbach lines as a railway company for local rail passenger transport (SPNV). Via subsidiaries it is also active in urban and regional transport as well as occasional transport with buses and freight transport .

Company history

Emerged is Rhenus Veniro from the made December 1, 2007 division of the Rhenus Keolis to the two shareholders. The internationally active company Keolis (with the participation of SNCF ) took over the rail transport in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia under the previous name of Eurobahn .

The name of the company is composed on the one hand of the name of the parent company Rhenus and on the other hand, made up of the Latin word Veniro (Latin venire, to arrive). Rhenus Veniro is a member of the tariff association of the federal and non-federal railways in Germany (TBNE).

In July 2017 the legal form was changed from GmbH to SE .

On October 2, 2018, the Rethmann Group announced that it intended to invest in the French Transdev . At the same time, the business activities of Rhenus Veniro will be incorporated into Transdev. At the end of 2018, the Federal Cartel Office approved the Rethmann Group's 34 percent stake in Transdev. In Germany resulting from the merger of Rhenus Veniro and Veolia Verkehr the second largest provider of public transport and local rail after Deutsche Bahn .

Freiberger Eisenbahn
As a subsidiary with a majority stake, the Freiberg – Holzhau railway in Saxony is operated by the Freiberger Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (FEG) . Rhenus Veniro owns 74% of the FEG, the remaining 26% is shared by local bus companies, including the Freiberg district transport company .

Hunsrück Railway
Since the timetable change on December 13, 2009, Rhenus Veniro has been operating the Hunsrück Railway between Boppard and Emmelshausen . Due to problems with the registration of the Regio-Shuttle RS1 locomotives from Stadler, a DB Regio train continued to run on the route. As of April 29, 2011, a preliminary operating license was issued by the Federal Railway Authority . A few days later, the Regio-Shuttle was put into operation on this route. The special purpose association SPNV Nord in Koblenz awarded the contract for operation in February 2008. The transport contract was signed on May 20, 2008 in Emmelshausen for a period of 20 years. On January 1, 2009, the site of the former railway maintenance office in Boppard was acquired, on which a workshop hall was built.

Moselle Wine Railway
With the timetable change on December 14, 2014, Rhenus Veniro took over the traffic of the Moselle Wine Railway from Bullay to Traben-Trarbach from the previous operator DB Regio for 15 years . The Regio-Shuttle RS1 railcars that have been running on the Donnersbergbahn up to this point are used .

Donnersbergbahn
Rhenus Veniro operated the Donnersbergbahn between Alzey and Kirchheimbolanden in Rhineland-Palatinate from May 29, 1999 to December 14, 2014 . Two Regio-Shuttle RS1 railcars were used for this. With the timetable change in December 2014, the transport services on this route were ceded to the competitor vlexx . This was able to prevail in a new tender.

Transport participation in North Rhine-Westphalia

NIAG Eisenbahn provides block train services as well as shunting and works transport services with seven locomotives , which are also approved on the Deutsche Bahn network , and two other shunting locomotives . For third parties, if necessary, the railway operations manager or the train driver as well as wagon technical examinations and traffic planning are provided. 115 own freight cars are available for the transport of goods. Most recently, NIAG Eisenbahn transported over 2.1 million t of goods in 2008.

Third-party vehicles are also serviced in our own vehicle workshop. Over 4000 freight wagons are repaired every year. Main inspections, revisions, painting, etc. are also offered. The workshop is equipped with a hall, outdoor facility, express repair track, lifting jacks and indoor cranes. The company's own rail network comprises 36 kilometers of track infrastructure between Rheinberg and Moers . In addition to freight trains, nostalgic passenger trains known as "Schluff" also run here several times a year. Dangers these trains with historic railcars of type VT 98 on special occasions.

Port operations

NIAG logistics

The Niederrheinische Verkehrsbetriebe operate the port of Orsoy on the Rhine at the height of the Rhine kilometer 793.8. Up to 2.2 million t of goods are handled here every year. There are 80,000 m² of hall space available for this, as well as three cranes and three shunting tracks to load and unload block trains. Primarily coal and ore are loaded and unloaded here.
