The Océanic de Rimouski ( English Rimouski Océanic ) is a junior ice hockey team from Rimouski in the province of Québec , which plays in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ).

history

The franchise was founded as Sherbrooke Castors before the start of the 1969/70 season , renamed Saint-Jean Castors in 1982 and again renamed Saint-Jean Lynx in 1989. It has been based in Rimouski since 1995 and plays its home games at Colisée Financière Sun Life .

The team won the LHJMQ championship, the Coupe du Président , in the 1999/2000 season and was also successful in the Memorial Cup tournament, with future NHL stars Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards having a large share in this success . Currently, the Océanic is one of the better known teams in the Canadian Hockey League , largely due to the signing of Sidney Crosby in the 2003/04 season, who is now one of the NHL's superstars.

In 2005, the Océanic set a new LHJMQ record with 28 consecutive games without a loss. In the playoffs of the same year they won seven games in a row, so that a total of 35 successes were to book. The team consequently won the LHJMQ championship and again took part in the Memorial Cup tournament. They reached the final, but clearly failed 4-0 to the London Knights .
