Geographical location

Schönenberg is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park . The municipality stretches from the edge of the Wiesental at a height of 600 meters to the summit of the Belchen in 1414 above sea ​​level . From the east, Schönenberg can be reached via Schönau in the Black Forest . From a south-westerly direction, a road also leads into the village via Wildböllen and the 825  m high pass crossing Untere Stuhlsebene .

history

Schönenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1164 in connection with the building of a church. The place must have reached a certain size by this time. The village gained importance through the beginning of silver mining on the south-eastern slope of the Belchen.
