history

In the 14th century the place was first mentioned as "Lochhof" or "Lohhof". Wilhelm I. Schenk von Arberg was the first to name himself afterwards. The Arberg were a branch of the widely ramified family of the Lords of Rothenburg . The fortified fief seat of the heir taverns of the Hochstift Eichstätt was decried as a robber knight's nest. After the death of Wilhelm III. Schenk von Lochhof in 1484 broke out a dispute over his legacy. Thereupon Bishop Wilhelm von Eichstätt decided according to the arbitration letter of June 21, 1484 that the Lochhof should be sold by the guardians of the children and that the widow and children should be compensated from the proceeds. The selling price of the castle "with towers, forecourt, ditches and kennels" together with a garden, 60 acres of arable land, 28 days' work of meadows, a forest plot of 100 acres and 3 "ponds", as well as the right to drive cattle, was 900 guilders. In 1487 the Lohhof was rebuilt as a castle by knight Ludwig von Eyb-Sommersdorf (* 1417, † January 20, 1502) and renamed Eybburg. Eybburg was then a Hochstift-Eichstättisches fiefdom. From then on, this line was called von Eyb zu Eybburg. In 1462 Ludwig was employed by the Hochstift Eichstätt as the caretaker of Arberg. Margrave Albrecht von Ansbach and his son Johann Friedrich were appointed councilors for Onolzbach and as district judges. Bishop Georg von Bamberg and Albrecht II transferred the Brauneck fiefdom in 1486 . Ludwig died on January 20, 1502 and was buried in Heilsbronn next to his wife Magdalena Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden . Her son Anselm von Eyb zu Eyburg (* 1447) was the tower lord of Bamberg and Eichstätt. In 1468 he accompanied Duke Eberhard I of Württemberg on his pilgrimage to Jerusalem and died in 1477 before his father. His brother Gabriel von Eyb became bishop of Eichstätt in 1496. Brother Caspar was a nurse at Arberg. He died in 1513 and was buried next to his parents in Heilsbronn Monastery.

After the imperial ban on Karl Schenken von Arberg in 1533, Bishop Gabriel von Eyb (1455–1535, Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt 1496–1535) granted the owner of the Eybburg, Georg Ludwig the Younger von Eyb and his heirs, the office of inheritance.

Eybburg was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Wassertrüdingen . Towards the end of the 18th century there were two courtyards next to the castle. The village and community rulership and land was held by the Eichstättische Vogtei Eybburg . From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Wassertrüdingen .

As a result of the community edict, Eybburg was assigned to the tax district and rural community Großlellenfeld formed in 1809 . With the second community edict (1818), the place came to the newly formed rural community Kleinlellenfeld . On April 1, 1971, Kleinlellenfeld merged with the community of Großlellenfeld to form the community of Lellenfeld . During the regional reform in Bavaria , Eybburg came with the incorporation of the Dinkelsbühl district into the Ansbach district on July 1, 1972. In 1978 the municipality of Lellenfeld and thus Eybburg was incorporated into the Arberg market.

Today the hamlet consists of five properties.
