action

After a controversial election in 2008 with a tie, the United States Congress appointed the most unpopular head of state in US history. David Jefferson Adams becomes the 44th President of the United States .

There were riots in 2010. Militias are forming and internal terrorism is skyrocketing. Then the president imposed in 2011 by national anti-terror laws , the laws of war on the West Coast and in other parts of the country. Despite massive protests in September 2012, the Supreme Court bypassed the electoral procedure and excluded several presidential candidates from several states from the election. After a sham election in November 2012, Adams accepted a second term.

During the 57th inauguration on January 20, 2013, a low-explosive nuclear weapon hits Washington. Adams and most of the members of Congress die. With the destruction of Washington, the political system effectively collapses. The European Union is sending peacekeeping forces to the Washington area to protect international interests. Several states have declared themselves independent.

In 2014, the United States no longer existed. The remaining states each form different factions and fight each other. A second American civil war has broken out.

As the campaign progresses, it is reported that Russia, under Nicholai Vladekov, is taking Alaska on the grounds that Alaska never really belonged to the United States of America. He also ordered the nuclear bombing of Washington. He did this to paralyze the world economy, to regain military supremacy in order to be able to control Europe more easily. This led to massive protests in Russia, and martial law was imposed in Moscow.

After the mainland of the United States was reunified, Hawaii agreed to join the new government. Finally, they attack Alaska, which is occupied by Russian troops. The result is illustrated in an extro video, depending on whether you have recaptured Alaska and what your political reputation is.

Game mechanics

On a political map of America, except Alaska and Hawaii, you choose your faction. The political groups initially own 4 areas, with the exception of the European peacekeeping force, which owns only one. Each area brings different benefits, such as more gasoline in a battle or higher income. The parliamentary groups carry out their options in a certain order. You can only attack areas that border at least one area of your own. Only one attack is possible per turn, but an area can be attacked more than once by different factions. Units are bought or repaired on the political map. If you are attacked, you cannot buy regular units, only so-called one-time units. If you are attacked and have not occupied all of the unit slots, weak militia units fill up the remaining slots.

Each unit may attack a maximum of once per round. Light, medium and heavy vehicles, infantry, helicopters, bombers and fighter jets are available. The battlefield is divided into hex fields . At the beginning of each battle, the units are set up manually or automatically. Bombers and fighter jets are housed in an airport that requires a hex field. Only one unit can be stationed on a hex.

The area is criss-crossed by rivers, hills, roads, bridges and the like. These determine how quickly a unit z. B. moved. These terrain types also offer bonuses such as B. Defense. For example, you can cover more fields on roads than over hills. However, roads reduce the defensive power of units.

When a unit is attacked, the attacking unit fires first. If this unit survives the attack, it can automatically shoot a unit firing at it once per round, if it can. An air defense unit can e.g. B. cause no damage against ground troops, but if a bomber or fighter jet tries to attack something in its attack radius, it fires every time.

In order to conquer an area in a battle, you have to take priority cities; these bring different numbers of points. To capture these cities, at least one ground unit must occupy a hex that belongs to that city. If an enemy unit is also stationed on a hex in the city, the attacker cannot take the city until that unit is destroyed. If you have reached the predetermined number of points to conquer an area, you automatically take the area. Remaining enemy units remain with the owner.

You can also kill all enemy units and thus automatically take the area. Or the enemy leaves the area to you voluntarily or after major losses in a battle.

In addition, there is a fixed number of maximum rounds in every battle. If you have reached this number of rounds before you have conquered enough cities, the battle is considered lost.

During each new round, Russia randomly drops an aid package over the map. This contains upgrades, repairs, Russian units or, in rare cases, traps.

Political reputation is gained during battle . This is determined by how much collateral damage you do in a battle. These possible damages indicate which special skills can be used. The less collateral damage you cause, the more positive special skills you get for your own armed forces. Artillery fire, bomb carpets or dirty bombs cause greater collateral damage . Each faction has its own special abilities. These need a respective number of laps to "recharge". They can be used multiple times in a battle.

Despite the larger water area, there are no maritime units.

Factions

There are a total of seven factions that are playable in the campaign. Russia is the eighth parliamentary group. It is only available as an enemy in the campaign, but can be selected in battle. Each parliamentary group has some specific units that only it has in this form.

California Commonwealth

The California Commonwealth consists mainly of the states of Nevada , Arizona , Utah . The Commonwealth is rich in natural raw materials. Most of the population is concentrated on the Pacific coast. The other factions think that the Californians are superficial but creative and inventive. The Californians see the war as a war against oppression.

The Confederacy

The Confederacy consists of the states of Virginia , North Carolina , South Carolina , Georgia , Florida , Alabama , Mississippi , Louisiana , Tennessee, and Kentucky . The Confederacy see the war as an attack on traditional values. They are considered conservative, but have the most modern technology, including laser tanks. Other than its location, the Confederacy has little in common with the Confederates from the First American Civil War.

Great Plains Federation

The Great Plains Federation consists of the states of Minnesota , Ohio , Michigan , Iowa , Illinois , Indiana , Missouri , Wisconsin , Kansas , Nebraska , North Dakota, and South Dakota . Its residents are considered ultra-conservative. Nevertheless, it is considered to be the most tolerant group.

New England Alliance

The New England Alliance consists of the states of New York , New Hampshire , Ohio , West Virginia , New Jersey , Pennsylvania , Maine , Vermont , Rhode Island , Massachusetts and Connecticut . The New Englanders are very ambitious. They have the highest population density.

Pacifica

Pacifica consists of the states of Washington , Oregon , Idaho , Montana , Wyoming , and Colorado . The Pacifica are often referred to as green weirdos and are said to have a lack of realism. They see the war as a war against aggression.

The Republic of Texas

The Republic of Texas consists of the states of Texas , New Mexico , Oklahoma , Arkansas, and Missouri . The Texans are often referred to as beer-drinking cowboys. However, they have clear rules and detest traitors and bureaucrats. You are always only one step away from anarchy. Your army is one of the most advanced.

European Union

The European Union is active in the area of the devastated Washington DC. It controls parts of the states of Maryland , Delaware , West Virginia , Pennsylvania and New Jersey . The European Union tries to restore the state union with the help of the peacekeeping forces and wants to avoid chaos. Their economic interests play a major role, as the war collapsed an important economic market for Europeans.

Russia

Russia's only territory is Alaska . Russia has very few units; but these are very strong. Since Russia only appears in one battle, they throw their entire army into battle. Russia does not specifically support the occupation of Alaska. Nicholai Vladekov carries out the conquest. The result of the conquest can lead to a political landslide in favor or to the disadvantage of Vladekov.
