history

Settlement in Sidney started in 1760 along the Kennebec River. Initially, the area belonged to the town of Vassalboro and was organized on January 30, 1792 as an independent town. The town was named after Philip Sidney , an English courtier, soldier and writer. In 1798 land was given to Belgrade.
