Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1958, when an orchestral association founded by former military musicians after the Second World War was supplemented by strings and transferred to the Ludwigsburg City Orchestra . The founding member of the association founded by statute of September 24, 1958 (register of associations No. 420, district court Ludwigsburg) is the city of Ludwigsburg , which is always represented by three and since 2010 by four municipal councils or representatives of the city of Ludwigsburg on the entire board of the association. Based on this history, the entire board of the association consists in accordance with the statutes of the orchestra board elected every two years and the representatives from the municipal council and / or the city administration appointed by the mayor of Ludwigsburg. The legal, executive board of the association and its two deputies are elected from the midst of this entire board, whereby one of these positions must be occupied by the elected orchestra board. On July 14, 1983 the Stadtorchester Ludwigsburg eV received its current name Sinfonieorchester Ludwigsburg eV ; the suffix "der Stadt" was deleted from the name of the orchestra on April 21, 2010. Since 1992, the management of the orchestra has been taken over by an additional person in cooperation with the board.

history

The first chairman of the association, which was founded in accordance with the statutes to create an orchestra suitable for the cultural life of the city, is rector Robert Fischer, his deputy Wilhelm Krämer , the founder and artistic director of the “Ludwigsburg Palace Concerts” . Karl Böhm's student Kapellmeister Werner Teichmann (until 1976) was appointed first conductor . The main tasks of the orchestra at that time were concerts in Ludwigsburg and in the district area for schools, the musical design of urban events or memorial days (e.g. the "city foundation celebration" , since 1973 in the order hall of the castle) and the accompaniment of choral societies. The city hall, the auditorium of the PH (since 1966) and the hall of the cultural center (since 1969) were available as concert rooms. With the concert for the inauguration of the “Forum am Schlosspark” (March 19, 1988) with Ludwigsburg choirs, the “Theatersaal” is the ideal venue, which in 2013 celebrated its 25th anniversary with the participation of the orchestra. There, on May 4, 2018, under the moderation of Frank Baasner , the musical accompaniment of the city foundation celebration "300 years of becoming a city" took place with prominent guests such as Federal President a. D. Horst Köhler , the incumbent Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann and the former Prime Minister Erwin Teufel , as well as the Ludwigsburg Mayor Werner Spec and his colleague from the twin town of Montbéliard Marie-Noelle Biguinet .

Together with committed chairmen, the orchestra developed under the new conductor Siegfried Bauer (1976 to 2016), selected from three applicants, to its current strength of around 80 musicians. As the quantity increased, so too did the quality, documented in broadcast recordings by the SDR (1984, 1986) and a record recording (1988). In 1985 it won first prize at the Baden-Württemberg State Competition in Balingen for the 1st German Orchestra Competition of the German Music Council. At the federal level, it reached level two in the category BS3 (lay symphony orchestra) in this four-year Olympic competition in 1986 in Würzburg .

The orchestra is also increasingly working on its own projects. The events in the city begin every two years with the popular New Year's concerts. Since 2002 the orchestra has established the highly regarded "catchy tune" series: moderated children and family concerts in cooperation with teachers and schools. At the initiative of the conductor Siegfried Bauer , another hands-on concert series was created in 2010 with “Sing mit!” In the run-up to Christmas. The orchestra has also been engaged in contemporary music and world premieres since 1985. The composers Hans Georg Pflüger and Kay Westermann dedicated one work each to the orchestra and its conductor Siegfried Bauer. The film composer Meike Katrin Stein has been a member of the first violins since 2014 , which means that the orchestra has given her world premieres as well as arrangements. The highlights with over 300 participants since 1996 have been the Ludwigsburg cultural projects of scenic music theater, which have been taking place at intervals of several years together with choirs and dance ensembles from Ludwigsburg.

Until the 50th anniversary year, the former orchestra director Fritz Bauer (trombone) was the last active founding member of the ensemble, which at that time had 81 members (2008). On this birthday the orchestra gave itself a conducting under Sir Roger Norrington . Since 2014 the orchestra has had the horn player David Zimmerman an honorary member in the USA. In 2016, with the introduction of a new logo, the homepage was renewed after five years.

With an anniversary and farewell concert on October 22, 2016 in the Forum am Schlosspark, Ludwigsburg, Siegfried Bauer , only the second conductor in the 58-year history of the orchestra, celebrated his farewell after 40 years. He was appointed honorary conductor by the orchestra. From 2017, the ensemble chose a successor, Hermann Dukek, from almost 100 applicants from Germany and abroad . Together with chairman Marcus Raimann and the concert master, the Ludwigsburg violinist and member of the first violins of the SWR Symphony Orchestra , Mathias Hochweber , he continued to develop the ensemble with the continued support of the city of Ludwigsburg. After the mayor had been voted out of office after 16 years in office, the orchestra thanked Werner Spec at the city's reception on July 25, 2019 for the longstanding support of culture in Ludwigsburg and in particular of the orchestra with the award of honorary membership.

The corona crisis brought an abrupt end to the further strengthening of the presence in the city from March 2020. The planned events were canceled completely.

The symphony orchestra can also be heard outside the city and the district of Ludwigsburg: concert tours have taken it to Balingen (1985), to Lake Constance ( Gaienhofen , 1989 / Mainau , 2010), to Esslingen am Neckar (1996), Hirsau (1997), Naumburg (Saale) (1993), Nürtingen (2008, 2015), Remchingen (2018, 2020), Rendsburg (2003), Renningen (1977), Stuttgart (1976, 1981, 1984, 1996, 1998, 1999), Ulm (1999) , Weingarten (Baden) (2016) and Würzburg (1986), as well as abroad to Russia ( Saint Petersburg , 2001), Switzerland ( Stein am Rhein , 2010), Czech Republic ( Pisek , 2007) and Hungary ( Békéscsaba , Gyula , 2019) . The Ludwigsburg twin cities such as Montbéliard (1984, 1987, 1991, 1994, France), Nový Jičín (2007, 2014, Czech Republic), Jevpatorija (1996, Ukraine) and Caerphilly (1988, Wales) were also visited several times .

The Ludwigsburg Symphony Orchestra is a member of the City Association of Choral and Music Associations Ludwigsburg eV and the Federal Association of German Lover's Orchestra eV (BDLO) through the Baden-Württemberg State Association.
