Information sign on the building

The Speicher Allgemeine is a former granary in Duisburg's inner harbor , which is now used as an office and integrated parking garage.

In 1936 the ten-storey silo granary was built by Allgemeine Speditions AG as a modern reinforced concrete structure with brick cladding. Except for the harbor side, where the stairwell and a few side rooms were located, it had no windows. The grain was stored in vertical concrete chambers.

The renovation was completed at the end of 1999 after a construction period of twelve months, with Allgemeine Speicher Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH as the investor and Bahl & Partner from Hagen as the architectural office. The project management was carried out by the Essen real estate company Kölbl Kruse GmbH . For the conversion, the entire building had to be dismantled down to the foundation walls and completely renovated and modernized; instead of the grain chambers, individual storey ceilings were drawn in. After that, the outer skin was built in front of the original and in keeping with the monument, similar to the Werhahnmühle in the further course of the storage line. The dark center of the building was given a multi-storey car park for employees' vehicles. These are automatically sorted into individual high-bay chambers by means of a lift. Around the outside, 200 bright offices were created through new, two-story rows of windows. The ground floor is designed for catering establishments.

The tenant is Carl Spaeter GmbH, a steel trading company. The gross floor area is 9,600 m².
