The shipyard port , also known as the ring port or island port , is a historical building in Duisburg - Ruhrort . It is a listed building as a ground monument.

The Prussian administration of the Ruhrorter Hafen under the direction of Baron Ludwig von Vincke had the shipyard built between 1820 and 1825, the old port basin on the Rhine served as an access from then on and was expanded. The Vinckekanal later emerged from this driveway . The basin of the shipyard was oval with an island in the middle. Shipyards settled there, including the "Hüttengewerkschaft und Handlung Jakobi, Haniel & Huyssen, Sterkrade", which built steamships. The first Rhine steamer city of Mainz built in Prussia was launched here in 1830.

From 1837 to 1842 the port was expanded again, the sluice port was led parallel to the shipyard port and connected to it by means of a puncture. The northern end of the Schleusenhafen was then called the Bunkerhafen after the coal bunkers located there . A 150 meter long lock channel created the connection with the Ruhr .

Shortly before the First World War, large areas of the shipyard and lock port were filled in again, they had become too small for modern ships and were earmarked as building land for the expansion of Ruhrort. However, it was not built until after the war, including the thousand- window house in 1922-23 . The northern curve of the shipyard has been preserved, while Vinckeplatz is located on the western part of the former port basin . The bunker port has been completely preserved. A riverside path with artistic installations was laid out between the two as part of the Emscher Park International Building Exhibition .

The listed packing house from 1862 is still preserved from the former Haniel shipyard. The forge from 1871 intended for the conversion to the "KulturWerft" burned down almost completely in early 2010 and was finally demolished in early 2011.
