The Vinckeplatz in Duisburg - Ruhrort is named after Ludwig Freiherr von Vincke (1774–1844), who became civil governor between the Weser and Rhine in 1813 and in 1816 he was President of the Province of Westphalia and Director of the Ruhr Shipping Administration . As a reformer, Vincke made great contributions to the expansion of the Ruhrort ports .

investment

The traffic island between Hafenstrasse, Krusestrasse, Dr.-Hammacherstrasse and Carpstrasse near the partially filled-in shipyard harbor and the Vinckekanal has an honorary column on the triangular green area with the sculpture of Felicitas Publica, a new cast from 1962 of the original by Christian Daniel Rauch (1777 -1857). The bronze figure with a cornucopia in his arm stands on a 7.5 meter high granite column with a bronze Corinthian capital , which is supposed to symbolize happiness and prosperity for the community.

The original was initially built on the pier between the Kaiserhafen and the Hafenkanal (corresponds to today's Vinckekanal) at the level of the Schifferbörse . From 1925 it stood on Vinckeplatz until it was melted down in 1941 for armaments production. In 1962 the figure was first rebuilt at the Eisenbahnbassinbrücke, and in 2003 it finally returned to Vinckeplatz.

Surroundings

The thousand-window house and the Eduard Carp School, today a branch of the comprehensive school Ruhrort, are located near Vinckeplatz .

Dr.-Hammacher-Strasse also begins at the square. It is named after Friedrich Hammacher (1824-1904), a member of the Reichstag for the Duisburg-Mülheim constituency, who was made an honorary citizen of Ruhrort in 1888.
