The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Josef in Niederaichbach , a parish in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut , is a modern church that was built in 1961 and 1962 according to the plans of the Munich architect Friedrich Ferdinand Haindl . The patron saint of the church is St. Joseph in his capacity as the patron saint of workers , whose feast day is celebrated on May 1st.

history

Before the construction of today's parish church St. Josef Niederaichbach only owned the small side church St. Nikola on the right of the Isar. Today's St. Margaretha branch church in Reichersdorf , about 1.5 kilometers south, served as the parish church . Due to the flood exposure in the course of the Isar regulation in the 1950s, a lot of new settlement area was gained in Niederaichbacherau (around 1880 this consisted of only around 30 scattered properties) left of the Isar . Therefore, the pastor from Reichersdorf at the time, Engelbert Haberl , suggested the construction of a new church . At a citizens' meeting on June 14, 1959, three options were proposed for voting: the renovation of the Reichersdorf Church, a new building at the foot of the Schlossberg on the right of the Isar, or a new building in the immediate vicinity of the new school building on the left of the Isar. The decision finally fell on the latter option; Iniga Fürstin von Urach donated the building site for this to Niederaichbach Castle .

On May 14, 1961, the foundation stone for the church building to the left of the Isar was laid. The plans came from the Munich architect Friedrich Ferdinand Haindl, the construction company was Dionis Irlbeck from Mettenbach . The new church was ready for use for the first time at Christmas 1961. In mid-October 1962, the approximately four-meter-high tower cross was put on at the end of the construction work . At Christ the King of the same year the bells consecration was made. Finally, on May 1, 1963, the day of the patronage, the solemn consecration by Bishop Rudolf Graber took place . In the course of this, the parish seat was moved from Reichersdorf to Niederaichbach.

architecture

The parish church of St. Josef is located in the new center of Niederaichbach opposite the town hall, about set back from the main street. The hexagonal church space, which is slightly wider than it is long, is spanned by a transverse gable roof . This roof shape is also reflected in the wooden ceiling in the interior. The parabolic choir shows to the east , whereby the wooden ceiling is drawn down very far as a direct extension of the gable roof. The three church portals are opposite on the west side, where the organ loft is also located. The interior is illuminated by a row of windows on the west side and rectangular windows in the north and south that follow the roof pitch. With the exception of a rectangular window in the south, the chancel is only indirectly illuminated, so that the view of the worshipers there is glare-free.

To the southwest of the church is the free-standing tower , a so-called campanile . This is connected to the church building by a low but open corridor. The largely undivided four tower floors are built on a square floor plan . On the top of these floors there are tower clocks , a belfry and sound openings. A high, four-sided pyramid helmet is built on top of it and is crowned by the four-meter-high tower cross. The tower has a total height of 40 meters.

Furnishing

The sculptor Hans Wurmer from Hausen in the Kelheim district created a large part of the sculptural furnishings . For example, the celebration altar and the ambo made of Trento marble come from him . The altar table shows on the side facing the municipality side, a relief , the eight paired pigeons shows a central cross. On the ambo is a saying based on Ps 119 : 89f. EU to read: “YOUR WORD IS FOR ETERNALS, LORD, LIKE HEAVEN SO IT IS FIRMLY FOUNDED. IN ALL TIMES KEEP YOUR LOYALTY ”.

In the course of the liturgical redesign in 2000, the former bronze altar cross by Hans Wurmer, of which there is another, small cast in Saal on the Danube , was placed outside above the main portal. Inside, a more discreet cross, also created by Wurmer, was attached to which a circular bronze disk was faded in. In the middle there is a relief of the crucified Christ, which is surrounded by seven medallions with biblical representations, which are supposed to illustrate the seven sacraments. On the left these are from top to bottom: the baptism through the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan (cf. Mt 3,13-17  EU ), the confirmation through the sending of the Holy Spirit (cf. Acts 2,1-13  EU ) and the Repentance through the parable of the prodigal son (cf. Lk 15 : 11-32  EU ). The relief on the tabernacle door shows the institution of the Eucharist based on the Last Supper . On the right side are shown from bottom to top: the ordination by salvation of the followers of the storm by Jesus (see FIG. Mt 8.23 to 27  EU , das) Matrimony by Adam and Eve (see FIG. Gen 3.7 to 13  EU ) as well as the anointing of the sick through the healing of Tobit by Tobias (cf. Tob 11.1-15  EU ).

Similarly, the symbols of the seven sacraments can also be seen on the parapet of the organ gallery . The sloping wooden ceiling above the choir is decorated with a symbol of the Holy Trinity by the Munich painter Theo Kittsteiner. Instead of the left side altar, there is a bronze Madonna figure on the front of the community hall , which Hans Wurmer created in 2000. The crowned figure of Mary holds the scepter in her right hand and the baby Jesus on her left arm. He holds the globe in his left hand, while his right hand is raised as a blessing . Instead of the right side altar, a figure of the church patron Joseph with his foster son Jesus can be seen in a round arch niche. The baptismal font is placed directly in front of it .

organ

When the church was built, only an electronic organ was installed. Thanks to numerous donors, Pastor Siegfried Heilmer succeeded in replacing this with a pipe organ . Georg Jann from Allkofen near Laberweinting built the fully mechanical slider chest instrument with a total of 18 sounding registers on two manuals and a pedal . It was inaugurated on Sunday , October 19, 1986, by Vicar General Fritz Morgenschweis . The disposition is as follows:
