Bauhaus Galan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bauhaus-Galan ( spelling BAUHAUS-Galan ), previously also Stockholm Bauhaus Athletics , is an annual international athletics meeting that is held in Stockholm as part of the Diamond League series . The event, one of the biggest sporting events in Sweden , has been held in the Olympic Stadium since 1967 and was known as DN Galan until 2014 , named after the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter (DN), the main sponsor of many years. After signing a sponsorship agreement with the Bauhaus hardware store chain , the meeting has had its new name since 2015.

World records

In the past, the DN Galan set some world records , especially over the medium and long distances . However, none of them exist anymore.

Wilson Kipketer (Denmark) was the last to do this : on July 7, 1997, he set the existing record over 800 meters with a time of 1: 41.73 minutes and improved it twice in the same season. When Richard Chelimo (Kenya) won the 10,000 meters in 27: 07.91 minutes at DN Galan on June 5, 1993 , he was only the third African to set a world record over this distance. In the women's category, Ingrid Kristiansen (Norway) set a new world record over 5000 meters on August 5, 1986 , completing the twelve and a half laps in 14: 37.33 minutes.

The only world record that was not set over a running track was achieved by the Swede Patrik Sjöberg in the high jump . On June 30, 1987, he jumped eight feet. Only Javier Sotomayor (Cuba) and Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar) have been able to surpass this level so far.
