The Tatra 805 is a light all-wheel drive truck with a cab. It was created at the request of the army. The experience from the Tatra 803 and Tatra 804 off-road vehicles flowed into its design, neither of which went into series production. There are different details about when production started.
Originally, the Tatra 805 was supposed to be the start of a new series of light trucks with usable weights between 1.5 and 2.5 t. In 1952, however, the Czechoslovak Ministry of Mechanical Engineering decided to specialize Tatra in the manufacture of trucks with a payload of 7 to 10 tons. Therefore, the production of the Tatra 805 was relocated to the Škoda factories in Mladá Boleslav and Plzeň . In addition to the flatbed truck, the T 805 was also manufactured as a station wagon, tank truck, ambulance, fire department and with various box bodies. The various superstructures were produced in several other companies. In 1960 production of the T 805 was stopped.
The Tatra 805 is also designed according to the Tatra principle with a central tubular frame and pendulum axles. It has excellent terrain characteristics. An air-cooled V8 petrol engine, which was also used in the Tatra 603 car, serves as the drive . The two-seater cab with rear-hinged doors is available in a closed and an open version. In the closed cab, the front windows can be opened individually to the front. The open cabin has a folding top and the two front windows can be folded forward together.
