The Tatra 57 was the successor to the type 12 small car introduced by the Czechoslovak manufacturer Tatra in 1932.

The vehicle had an overhead, fan - cooled, four-cylinder V-engine, known as a boxer engine, with a fork angle of 180 ° and a displacement of 1155 cm³ and an output of 18 hp (13.2 kW). The front engine drove the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch and an unsynchronized four-speed gearbox with center shift. The maximum speed of the 780 kg car was 80 km / h. The chassis was a central tube, the front wheels were suspended on two transverse leaf springs, the rear on a hingeless pendulum axle with a transverse leaf spring. The drive shafts were “jointless” - each drive shaft was rigidly connected to a ring gear that rolled on its drive pinion when it was compressed. All four wheels had drum brakes operated by a cable with length compensation, and the front axle had rack and pinion steering.

From 1936 the Tatra 57 A was offered as a successor. The maximum output was specified with the same displacement as 20 hp (15 kW). This enabled the cars to reach 80–90 km / h. The front had a dummy radiator like that of the Model 75 . There were only two-door bodies, in addition to those of the predecessor, a closed and an open bucket car for the police .

The Tatra 57 B followed in 1938 . Its engine had a capacity of 1256 cc and developed 25 hp (18.4 kW). A version with a sunroof was also offered for the first time by the car, which can go up to 90 km / h .

In 2017 a Tatra 57 B was found, which was delivered to the Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia in 1939. Owners were among others Konstantin von Neurath , Reinhard Heydrich , Kurt Daluege and Wilhelm Frick .

As a variant of this last '57s-model ", there were 1941 again a jeep , the Tatra 57 K . The engine of the 4-door model with increased ground clearance had only 23 hp (16.9 kW) with the same displacement

The 57 K model was produced until 1948, the civilian 57 B until 1949. Tatra did not offer a successor to the small model series.
