The Tatra 30 was the larger sister model of the small car type 11 , which the Tatra factory in Nesselsdorf brought out in 1926 .

The vehicle had an overhead , air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine with a displacement of 1680 cm³ and an output of 24 hp (17.6 kW). The engine, also developed by Hans Ledwinka , drove the rear wheels via a multi-plate dry clutch and a four-speed gearbox with center shift. The maximum achievable speed of the 1000–1290 kg heavy car was 90 km / h. The chassis had a central tube, a front axle with a transverse leaf spring and an articulated swing axle at the rear, also with a transverse leaf spring.

There were various 2-, 4- and 6-seat bodies, e.g. B. limousines, convertibles etc. A 6-seater was sold under the name Normandie as a small team car for forestry. A total of around 900 copies were produced within four years.

Also in 1926 the Tatra-Werke presented a racing and sports vehicle called Tatra 30 Sport . Its engine of the same design had 1910 cm³ displacement, developed 32–35 hp (23.5–25.7 kW) and gave the light vehicle a top speed of 125 to 130 km / h. The tank was installed across the vehicle behind the seats.

1929 appeared as an intermediate type of the Tatra 30/52 . It had the chassis of the Tatra 30 in connection with the engine of the Tatra 30 Sport. In this model, it developed an output of 30 hp (22 kW) and accelerated the car to up to 90 km / h. This type was only supplied as a four-seater convertible with two doors for only one year.

The successor to these models was the Type 52 from 1930 .
