The Tatra 111 was a heavy truck that was developed by the designer Hans Ledwinka of the Tatra company in Czechoslovakia . During the Second World War , the T111 was built for the German Wehrmacht . After the war, the vehicle found widespread sales throughout the Eastern Bloc and also proved itself under extreme weather and traffic conditions, for example in Siberia .
During the war, due to the scarcity of raw materials, the driver's cab was made of wood instead of sheet steel, after which the sheet metal was attached to a wooden frame and later the cab was made entirely of sheet metal.
In the almost 20 years of its production (1942–1960) around 34,000 Tatra 111s were produced.
The T141 tractor with the same engine was derived from the T111 . Variants of the T111 engine were installed in the special vehicle 234 of the German Wehrmacht , for example , there were also 6- and 8-cylinder versions based on it.
