The Tatra 147 was a heavy three-axle truck produced by the Czechoslovak vehicle manufacturer Tatra . This type was developed from the Tatra 111 and was built in series from 1957. The successor model was the Tatra 138 .
operation area
The Tatra 147 was redesigned from the Tatra 111 to a dump truck by the Research Institute for Construction and Ceramic Machines Brno , which is why it was initially named Tatra 111 Dumpcar . The chassis of the donor vehicle had been shortened and a rear tipper was added. The vehicle was intended for the transport of stones, bulk material and earth in rough terrain. Due to the shortened wheelbase, the car and the all-wheel drive were given a high degree of maneuverability and cross-country mobility.
It is not known exactly how many vehicles of this type were made. Production ended in 1961, and according to one source about 500 copies were made, another source speaks of 1,024 dump trucks manufactured. The vehicles were primarily used in opencast mines and quarries , where they could cope with any situation thanks to their maneuverability and off-road mobility. A few copies were also exported to the GDR .
According to the sources, 2 copies are said to have been preserved so far.
technology
Seen from the front, the vehicle is very similar to the Tatra 111 , the only differences are in the side view. Even the distinctive shape of the driver's cab is still very similar to the Tatra 111 due to the negative inclination of the front windows and thus differs from the Tatra 141, which is more popular in Germany . Like all trucks from Tatra were also Hinterkipper after the Tatra principle produced, ie with central tube frame , all-wheel drive and spur gear - differential gear . The vehicle had 11.00-20 tires, single tires on the front wheels and twin tires on the rear wheels. Due to the Tatra principle, the wheels had a positive camber when rebounding .
The drive motor of the rear tipper was the T 111 A-8 . It was a twelve-cylinder, four- stroke , air-cooled diesel engine . The engine had 3 camshafts. The engine was lubricated by pressure circulation .
The steel trough of the rear tipper held 5 m 3 and had protection for the driver's cab. To reduce vibrations of the chassis during loading, it had a double floor. 50 mm thick wooden planks were stored in it. Tilting was done hydraulically by operating a lever in the driver's cab. The average tilting time was approx. 20 seconds.
from the cab you can see the great resemblance to the Tatra 111
