The Tatra 52 was the 1930 successor to the mid-range vehicle type 30/52 from Tatra in Nesselsdorf.

The vehicle had an overhead , air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine with 1910 cm³ displacement and 30 hp (22 kW). The engine drove the rear wheels via a multi-plate dry clutch and a four-speed gearbox with center shift. The maximum speed of the 1100 kg car was 90 km / h. The chassis had a central tube, a front axle with a transverse leaf spring in an improved version compared to the 30/52, and an articulated pendulum axle with a transverse leaf spring at the rear. The car was equipped with steel disc wheels.

There were various 4- and 6-seat sedan bodies. A total of 1,687 copies were made within eight years. At the same time, a 2-door convertible and a 2-door roadster, the Tatra 52 Sport, were presented . Compared to the sedan, they had larger engines with a capacity of 1982 cc and 35–36 hp (25.7–26.5 kW). In addition, the bodies on the shortened chassis were much flatter and sleeker. The roadsters were manufactured by Sodomka in Vysoké Mýto . All of these vehicles had wire-spoke wheels. Their top speed was 135 km / h.

From 1937, the successor to these models was the Type 97, which had a completely different technical design .
